He accepts the job of English teacher as a challenge as he was told that last teacher jumped out of the window as his students drove him insane. Jeremy Brown is the teacher who holds the degree of BA Honors from University of Oxford. Miss Gladys is in charge of tea of and cafeteria at school. There is a sweeper Sidney who also plays his little part in adding humor to the show. She always wanted a female teacher for her school because of hers feminist views. Brown is not a good teacher and that is why most of his students failed the exam thrice. She is school’s principal who is very discipline conscious. Miss Dolores Courtney is one of the major characters of the show. The staff at school consisted of Miss Dolores Courtney, Mr. Two seasons revolved around activities in class only while the third season telecasted activities outside the class as well. Season 1 have ten students with different nationalities from the world which were Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Italian, German, Spanish, French, Swedish and Hungarian. The way Japanese speaks English with an ‘O’ ending at each word depicting the nature of Japanese language, the way a typical Indian woman behave by saying, ‘hain ji’ was also portrayed very effectively. Misunderstanding between students which causes humorous conflicts was the most common in all episodes of it. All students in the class have different proficiency level of English and from right here the show gets it humor. Jeremy brown, portrayed by famous British actor Barry Evans was the professor of the English teaching class. The show had four seasons with majority of the cast in all the seasons as ‘Failed students’. Each episode has an identified plot which is mentioned at the start of it. The whole series revolves around the foreign students and the teacher in an English learning classroom. India and Pakistan copied the sitcom and made ‘Zabaan Sambhal kay’ their own comedy series. Later it was revived with season three in 1986 with fourth season. While the show was sold to many different countries like India, Pakistan, Australia, Srilanka, Malaysia, Kenya and Singapore. The show became the victim of Stereotyping in 1979 by LWT’s Deputy Controller of Entertainment due to which it was cancelled. The show was also telecasted in other countries where it gained big audience applause. Some things are never old! And so is the British comedy sitcom ‘Mind your language’. ![]()
